Have you ever confronted a difficult dilemma in which you have to make a choice between your family and your love? You will find the situation in the story titled “Not great, but happy” by T.S. Arthur.
Do not you think that family background plays an important role in marriage? Nina, the main character in the story, was faced with this problem. Nina, whose father is a baron, fell in love with Pierre. He is a peasant which belongs to working class background. “Heart answers to heart without an unequal throb”. However, her father did not allow them to get married due to his poor social background. Every heart has its reason which we could not explain. She followed that reason and tied the knots to him without her father’s permission. They left to fight for their love because they were confident in their true love. Eventually, they did find their happiness. Happiness is open to those who strive to achieve it.
Despite of his social status, Mr. Pierre kept his self - respect. He said: “A peasant’s love is as pure as the love of a prince; and a peasant’s heart may beat as high emotions”. Being poor does not mean having no right to pursue our love.
Should or should not parents compel their child to a person whom she does not fall in love with? Have parents ever put themselves in their child’s shoes? Virtually, no child would be fully and truly happy without her parents’ support in her marriage. They should respect their child’s decision and be her support if the child is in trouble. These are all that every child expects from her parents. Parents’ love and support serve a crucial role in their child’s life.
